The IC.1 finish to the silvered metal is fine and the black finish shows little or no wear the blacking to the swastika itself is in fine condition. Good traditional flat form. Light tarnishing to the back & edges of the cross. A very good quality Iron cross.. An OK original 3 piece magnetic field worn WW.2 Iron Cross.. That is : 3 piece construction With either nickel silver or real silver ( usually marked 800 / 900 / 925) edging frames and a magnetic Iron core, On occasion the core and be non magnetic ,usually brass or white metal blackened. These are normally annotated as Naval awards, First class awards have either pin and clasp or screw disks.

I fully understand most collectors fear and loathing of the 1st and 2nd class badge bars to the iron cross Some years ago I believe, an excellent copy appeared with the award box. I certainly was caught with one The box is almost flawless unless you have the nerve to pull it apart then it is clearly a modern piece The unmarked eagle has two design flaws in it Enough said ! Be careful out there.!!!!
Note the first issue of these 1st & 2nd class bars had a scalloped 1939 bar & are rare…..
The first type of scalloped edge date bar was only issued in 1939 the straight bars were issued 1940 / 45….

There is generally described to be 2 types of 1st and 2nd class clasps IE. 1st pattern and second pattern. As far as I can research it turns on details. The early ones had larger (wider) wreaths to the swastikas and also many had veins in the eagles wing feathers But as far as I can see the main feature the second type have its they have SCALLOPED DATE PLACKS……..All the clasps I have are the second type clasp above W.38. 39, &40 above
