CUT OUT VERSUS ONE PIECE CROWN CROSSES TO FLYING BADGES. There has been discussion as to whether flying badges .pilots, observers, naval, Bayern etc etc should have cut out or rounded crosses to the top of the crown as being a key to authenticity. A study of the pictures in Neal O'Conners 4 volumes ( there may be six ?) " Aviation Awards of Imperial Germany in World war 1". clearly shows both types being worn.
